Soulja Boy, legally known as DeAndre Cortez Way, was arrested on weapons charges during a routine traffic stop in Los Angeles.

Variety confirmed with the Los Angeles Police Department that the rapper was a passenger in a car that was pulled over at Melrose and Genesee in Los Angeles at 2:35 am on Sunday morning.

NBC Los Angeles confirmed that Way was arrested for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm when a gun was found in the car.

The arrest is the latest of legal troubles for Way, who earlier this year was held liable by a Los Angeles court in a civil lawsuit brought by a former personal assistant who accused him of rape, awarding the woman $4 million in damages. In 2023, Way was ordered to pay ex-girlfriend Kayla Myers $471,900 in connection with an assault and kidnapping lawsuit filed in 2020. Also back in March 2019, the artist was arrested for violating probation related to a 2014 weapons conviction; he was sentenced to 240 days in jail and 265 hours of community service the following month.

Soulja Boy is best known for the chart-topping 2007 single “Crank That,” as well as hits like “Turn My Swag On” and “Kiss Me Thru the Phone.”
